‘RoRo’ gripper

 

 

The Roll-on Roll-off gripper is a product gripping solution that uses the crafty trick of an air filled toroid to pick up and place fragile or sticky irregular shaped objects.

 

The inside and outside surfaces of the toroid are driven separately so that the end can be made to ‘suck’ objects in whilst holding them with a low and even pressure.

This Technique of manipulating the surfaces of the toroid is patented.

 

Applications range from large scale versions to assist robotic manipulation of food products (top picture shows a mushroom gripper) to small hand held devices to aid arthritics or sufferers from Parkinsons disease.

 

In addition we’re currently working with partners to develop it as a new paradigm for prosthetic hands which could be simply interfaced with remaining nerves.
